Gia is one of the most talented people I know. She’s not only a make-up artist but also an Interior designer and a digital artist.
Can you please tell me a little bit about how you first got into makeup, and about your journey to where you are today?
"For starters, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design, but my passion lies with makeup and digital art.
Ever since I was young, I was always in love with the human face, structure, and colors. As I would always try to draw faces or paint on my actual face.
I realized after graduating that interior was not my path, and I wanted to go back to what I love the most, FACES. So, I pursued an International Degree in makeup to start my career, and here I am now. "
What is your favorite celebrity makeup look and why?
"My favorite Celebrity makeup look is Lady GAGA's MET GALA 2019 Look by Sarah Tanno. This look was extravagant and iconic and it helped younger makeup artists start thinking outside the box and become more creative. "
Describe your signature look.
"For a Signature Look, I always try to have a perfect finishing, glossed lips, and contouring and blushing the cheeks on a higher point of the face for a more snatched look."
What’s your brand philosophy?
"I do what I do to bring out the beauty in everyone, as every person has something special about them. I also try to use more daring colors and shapes in my work to show that people shouldn't be afraid to try different colors and shapes and that you can still have a natural look while stepping out of the box and being creative with your makeup."
What do you love most about doing makeup?
"What I love the most about doing makeup is the connection you build with your Model/ Client as understanding their personality and style is key to delivering a look that they will love and enjoy. Also, makeup is my happy place, where I can mix and match and create creative looks that attract attention. "
Does everyone look better with make-up?
"Every individual has their own beauty that distinguishes them from everybody else. What makeup does is target these unique features (whether it's the eyes, brows, lips, cheeks, jaw, etc) and enhance them if applied correctly and professionally."
Why is having an MUA essential to a photographer?
"Makeup artists are important for photographers and vice versa because the nature of what they both do complements each other. When you're having a photography session, you want to capture a certain mood or portray a specific emotion. Makeup, either simple or complicated, can help emphasize certain elements to bring that mood or emotion to life. So the makeup artist would enhance the feelings or the message being sent, and the photographer would capture it from all its beautiful angles."
What are the three makeup items every woman should have?
"Lipstick/ moisturizing lip balm: Always keep your favorite shade/ color of your lips(stick/balm) with you to use when needed.
Blotting sheets: They absorb the natural oils produced by your skin to keep your makeup flawless fresh and clean.
Blending sponge or Powder Puff with a sprinkle of setting powder: this trick can always help you keep your makeup in good shape, if slight damage happens. |
